Park Lane Quarry was first worked in 1880 by Randell and Saunders and was in full production until the late 1960’s apart from two short breaks during the world wars.
The stone extracted is an Oolithic Limestone more commonly known as Bath Stone, it is a free stone meaning that it can be sawn in any direction, making it ideal for carving and regular block work. Ham and Doulting are reopening the quarry in 2013, the stone is to be extracted using a specialist chainsaw, a slow and precise method meaning that stone production will be small scale but the blocks will be of a very high standard and suited to a variety of uses by craftsmen.
